Bulgarian Education Center on Nantucket visited Boston – one exceptional educational journey! March 29th, 2024 - March 31st, 2024 Nantucket Bulgarian School went on a very well and organized for quite some time Educational and Cultural Exchange Trip to Boston. A group of thirty six people, of which 22 students and 14 volunteering chaperones, took an exciting adventure. The main purpose of our field trip was to visit the Bulgarian School in Boston, to meet their students, teachers, mentors and parents and to spend some time with them. Our students made new friends who also go to school during the weekend. They worked in teams partnering with each other on different projects and were able to show personal knowledge as well. Everyone was very active and excited, asking questions, taking part in the learning process. They even played some sports together. The highlights of the event were beautiful songs performed by our hosts and traditional dances by our folklore dance ensemble. We stayed in Back Bay and walked Boston Common. We enjoyed delicious food at some nice restaurants and cafes in the neighborhood. We visited some of the most selective universities in the city. Professor Krassimir Marchev, PhD at Northeastern University gave us a guided tour around the campus showing us the buildings and facilities and telling us about academic programs and other useful information. The students had a chance to also interact with current Northeastern students who shared their personal experience, insights and perspectives. We also met Professor Tanya Zlateva, Dean at MIT, Boston University and Professor Vladimir Zlatev. In one of the lecture halls they talked about programs and facilities, as well as admission, tuition and acceptance rates and answered our questions. They were also so kind and had pizza for lunch for all of us. On the way to Boston JFK Presidential Library & Museum we had a chance to explore UMass Boston and its modern buildings and beautiful waterfront location. We strongly believe that trip was very special and beneficial for our older students. It enhanced their educational experience and motivated them to learn even harder. It also provided important cultural experience and offered great opportunities to exchange ideas and improve fluency in Bulgarian language.

We received the results of the exam that our students held at Sofia University for certification of their knowledge of the Bulgarian language. Eight children successfully passed the exam and received the University’s Certificates of Language Proficiency. We are so proud of them! The exam took 4 to 6 hours and consisted of oral and written part as written part had three subcomponents: listening comprehension, reading comprehension and writing. The exam was held at Sofia University Department for Language Teaching and International Students and is one of the DESE approved assessment instruments per Seal of Biliteracy program guidance document. With the efforts they made, they qualify for the Seal of Biliteracy in Massachusetts, USA, and their results showed as a reward for the work of all of us, teachers and supervisors, mentors and parents!🇧🇬

A Story was told to the students about the United Nations Organization and Rockefeller who gave the building as a gift to the organization. They showed us the headquarters where they hold meetings and make decisions about global issues like to keep world peace, to help countries get along, to improve living conditions for people all over the world and to make the world a better place
