We received the results of the exam that our students held at Sofia University for certification of their knowledge of the Bulgarian language. Eight children successfully passed the exam and received the University’s Certificates of Language Proficiency. We are so proud of them! The exam took 4 to 6 hours and consisted of oral and written part as written part had three subcomponents: listening comprehension, reading comprehension and writing. The exam was held at Sofia University Department for Language Teaching and International Students and is one of the DESE approved assessment instruments per Seal of Biliteracy program guidance document. With the efforts they made, they qualify for the Seal of Biliteracy in Massachusetts, USA, and their results showed as a reward for the work of all of us, teachers and supervisors, mentors and parents!🇧🇬

November 2nd - 4th, 2018 3rd and 4th graders from the Bulgarian School on Nantucket went on an Educational and cultural students exchange trip to NYC.
Thanks to ReMain Nantucket Fund - they sponsored the trip and all parents volunteers who traveled with us and helped with the organization.
- We Visited and spent one day at one of the Bulgarian Schools in NYC 'Hristo Botev' - students realized other children go to school during the weekend too so they can learn Bulgarian language, they made new friends, got to know other teachers in a Bulgarian school, learning plans and facility. They had workshops and all students worked together in a team and being able to show personal knowledge. We danced with their ensemble. Our students were very active and excited, they asked questions, took part in the learning process.
- We met the Bulgarian Ambassador Counselor and Assistant. Checked in at the United Nations Building, access provided - very strict security guidelines that needed to be followed. A Story was told to the students about the United Nations Organization and Rockefeller who gave the building as a gift to the organization. They showed us the headquarters where they hold meetings and make decisions about global issues like to keep world peace, to help countries get along, to improve living conditions for people all over the world and to make the world a better place
- We visited the Consulate General of Bulgaria in NYC. We walked in the Building and the Library and were told about life and work of a Diplomat
- We visited Bulgarian Church in Manhattan. The priest gave his blessing to the students and the school
- We walked Manhattan: Central Park, Rockefeller Plaza, Times Square, Empire State Building, 5th Ave, 9/11 Memorial and Museum, World Trade Center, Wall Street Bull, Statue of Liberty
- History Museum - was a rainy day option
We strongly believe that trip was very special and beneficial for our older students. It enhanced the educational experience for our students and motivated them to learn even harder. This trip provided important cultural experience to our students, offered great opportunities to exchange ideas and improved their fluency in Bulgarian, built capacity and added expertise to the organization.
